Paintings by Annick McKenzie April 13, 2011 - May 13, 2011
Annick McKenzie is a French born artist who has lived and worked in the UK for twenty three years and exhibited at international level in Europe and New York.
Her passion for colour was born out of a visit to Musee du Jeu de Paume in Paris when she was very young and where she discovered the works of Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse, Derain and many other colour masters. She started to paint later in life when she met the right teacher in 1994.
Annick's sense of colour is intuitive and her work is about an emotional ‘coup de coeur’ to places and an expression of feeling. It is all about the energy and the wonder of life with the aim to communicate its essence.
Working from sketches drawn en ‘plein air’ or from photographs she re-creates in her studio the magic feeling of the moment. Her work is original, inspiring and vibrant using mostly acrylics either on canvas or wood panels and including high quality limited and open edition giclee prints on paper and canvas.
Painting gives me a way to inspire and touch people’s lives. This is why I paint.
